Michael Sauer

Michael Sauer is a Copenhagen-based director and cinematographer who began his creative journey as a photographer in 1995, working briefly in children’s television. His early experience behind the lens sparked a passion for visual storytelling that led him into directing. Initially serving as director of photography, he soon branched out to write and direct music videos, before expanding into commercials.

Today, Michael moves seamlessly across fiction, music videos, and advertising—always guided by a narrative that feels genuine and personal. His combined expertise as a DOP and director often shapes the creative development of each project. In work that benefits from a more intimate atmosphere or reduced crew, Michael frequently handles both directing and cinematography himself, allowing for an authentic connection with his talent, while maintaining visual coherence.

Michael has gained recognition for his work on projects including Toscana (2022), A Beautiful Life (2023), and Børnene fra Sølvgade (2024).
